This week, Westpac announced that in a few days the bank will launch the Siri for Westpac app designed for Apple phones, allowing customers to make payments and check account balances with Siri voice control.
The launch of Siri for Westpac is an extension of the bank’s current iPhone application, which allows customers to link their Westpac account to view their account balances via Siri. The bank is the first in Australia to adopt the technology.
The bank explained that the customer would be able to make payments to any payee set up in the mobile app or online bank from the West Bank trading account connected to Siri and confirmed by the user’s fingerprint or facial identification (ID).
For example: the customer instructs Siri to say, “hey Siri, help me pay John Citizen $20 for dinner.”
The Apple phone Siri response is: “This is the 20 dollars that the Westpac pays John Citizen, are you sure to pay?”
To verify the payment, the customer is prompted to enter a fingerprint or face identification before the transfer.
Frazis George Frazis, director of Westpac consumer Banking, said the bank would become the first bank in Australia to provide the convenience technology to its customers.
” With over 2.5 million customers using mobile banking, as part of the bank’s development strategy, we will provide customers with technology and tools to meet their financial needs”he said.
According to Westpac Research, 48% of Australians use voice assistants in smart phones, 30% of whom use them at least once a day.
Westpac, Australia’s first bank and first company, has more than 192 years of experience in helping clients achieve their financial goals.
As one of Australia’s largest banks, the WESTPAC group has more than 2,800 ATMs and nearly 1,200 sub-branches throughout Australia’s major towns and cities. The company serves more than 7.5 million customers.
