Thailand national tourism administration and Alipay (hangzhou) information technology co., ltd. signed a letter of intent in Bangkok on May 27. The two sides will work to attract more high-end Chinese tourists to Thailand through online service channels, and jointly provide convenience services for inbound Chinese tourists.
Tassa, director of Thailand’s National Tourism Administration, said at the signing ceremony that Alipay was the world’s largest provider of online financial services. The Tourism Authority of Thailand signed a letter of intent with Alipay, stemming from the belief that cooperation could be reached on a long-term strategy for the future. It is believed that closer cooperation between the two sides will provide better convenient services for Chinese tourists visiting Thailand and attract more high-quality Chinese tourists to Thailand.
Alipay (Hangzhou) Information Technology Co., Ltd. is an international network payment service platform owned by Ant Jin Clothing. According to the letter of intent, the two sides will launch Thai tourism routes in the relevant Network service platform, for Chinese tourists to Thailand tourism, consumption and so on to provide more convenient services and security.
In November 2016, ant financial launched a strategic cooperation with Ascend Money, a leading Thai payment company, to jointly create a Thai version of the wallet TrueMoney, and to replicate ant’s inclusive finance model to Thailand by sharing technologies and experience.
China is Thailand’s largest tourist source country. In 2018, more than 10 million Chinese tourists traveled to Thailand, an increase of 7.2% on a year earlier, bringing 586.47 billion baht (about 127.5 billion yuan) of tourism revenue to Thailand. According to a recent report on Alipay’s overseas Consumer Behavior Survey, Thailand has become the region with the highest pay trades for Chinese tourists using Alipay abroad after Hong Kong, China.
