Netherlands e-commerce rankings: Which e-commerce seller is the first in three consecutive years

According to media reports, this year the Netherlands e-commerce industry ranked out, Bol.com was once again the big winner, ranking as the largest e-commerce seller in the Netherlands.

Bol.com’s e-commerce sales reached 1.22 billion euros in 2017, which is already the third consecutive year that Bol.com has topped the list




followed by Omni-channel retailer CoolBlue, Zalando, the German fashion retailer, replaced Wehkamp, the former Netherlands mail-order company, in third place.

Top 10 online stores in the Netherlands

According to Netherlands retail magazine Twinkle, the total revenue of the Top 250 e-commerce sellers in the Netherlands reached 10.37 billion euros, nearly half of that revenue (47.6%) was created by the top 10 online retailers.

According to data, only 15% of the Top250 sellers in the Netherlands did not provide self-pickup services to consumers.

According to the Euromonitor Global retail e-commerce index, the Netherlands and Belgium are ranked fourth and fifth in Europe, respectively, compared to other European e-commerce markets because of their strong online market attractiveness.

Of the 17 million people living in the Netherlands, 97% are internet users, 84% of whom are online shoppers. This means that 81.5% of the Netherlands population is shopping online.

Netherlands consumers are used to paying with iDEAL, a payment method jointly launched by a number of local Banks in the Netherlands. Consumers can directly use online bank transfer for payment when buying online. Some other common payment methods are credit card payments, mainly MasterCard and Visa.

Mobile payments are not growing particularly fast in the Netherlands, where seven Banks have launched apps offering mobile payment services, though they all use Android phones.
